A mentat is a fictional character who exists in the world created by Frank Herbert in the novel Dune. A mentat is a living, feeling computer who has trained itself in the art of knowledge acquisition and the transmission of codes and information.

A mentat feels it can "program" information into its brain merely through the power of suggestion and the practice of inquiry; the mentat feels information.

Devoted to peace and free from attachment, the mentat knows that its sole function is to acquire and transmit information for the common good.
